What I Treat
Anxiety
Do you want to open up to life but feel paralyzed by worries? Anxiety can creep into our lives in an attempt to protect ourselves from perceived danger. That’s really adaptive when there’s an actual threat, but not so helpful when our minds are caught in racing thoughts about hypothetical future scenarios. If anxiety is getting in the way of your life, let’s work together to witness these feelings of overwhelm and find different ways to relate and cope with them.
What I Treat
Depression
People use a number of words to describe depression: feeling down or blue, not myself, disconnected, lonely, dark. Maybe you’ve lost interest in things you typically enjoy. You might feel tired and unmotivated, or notice prolonged feelings of sadness, frustration and irritability. Therapy can help you to face this pain so that you can re-engage in life.
What I Treat
Eating disorders & body image
When we’re experiencing difficult emotions, we often want to escape them. We seek out ways to avoid the pain and find something that feels controllable, manageable. One way this might happen is to take it out on our bodies. If we can control what we eat (or don’t), how often and intensely we exercise, and the number on a scale, the hope is often that we’ll gain respite from the rest of our overwhelming feelings and experiences as well. Unfortunately, we know that this cycle does not work in the long run (although it may provide temporarily relief in the moment). We can collaborate in therapy to be with your challenging feelings together, find adaptive ways to cope, and establish a healthier relationship with yourself, your body, and food.
What I Treat
Trauma
Trauma is a first hand experience or witnessing of something dangerous, threatening or scary. Trauma can be a one-time event or complex (happen repeatedly over a span of time). Everyone copes with trauma differently. In therapy, the primary goal is that we cultivate safety and trust in order to process, work through this pain so that you can move forward from your trauma.
What I Treat
Relationships & Dating
Whether you’re in a relationship, coping with a breakup, on the dating scene, or single, you might be seeking awareness and understanding of your relationship patterns. Or maybe you want to be in a relationship but are fearful of what that means. Together, we can create insight into these patterns and support you in pursuing healthy, meaningful relationships.
What I Treat
Life transitions & adjustments
Life transitions are a natural part of life, but even the most exciting ones can also be stressful. If you’ve recently experienced a change or adjustment in your life, and are feeling overwhelmed by it’s impact, we can work together to cope with these challenges.
What I Treat
Self-esteem & confidence
Do you have difficulty trusting yourself? Are you overcome with thoughts of self-doubt and negative self-talk? Our relationship with self is fundamental to the way we approach the world and relate to others. We can make space for these critical thoughts while cultivating a mindful stance of self-compassion. You can transform your relationship with yourself and the world around you.
What I Treat
Grief
The pain of loss can feel like an unbearable one. Grief doesn’t adhere to a predictable schedule, and not knowing when waves of painful emotion might surface can be so challenging. At other times, you might feel okay which can prompt feelings of confusion and guilt. If you feel alone in your pain, fearful or burdening others, or not knowing where or how to begin addressing it, therapy can offer a safe and supportive space to be with your experience of loss. I will stand alongside you in working through this pain. You can continue to honor your loss while moving forward with your life.
